MUMBAI: The man who gave comedy a new wing, Shekhar Suman, is an angry man these days. India’s first original stand-up comedian, Shekhar is annoyed with the calls people have been making to him post Tanmay Bhat-Lata Mangeshkar row. The Dekh Bhai Dekh belives that people should not contact him because they think he shares the same kind of wit and humour as Tanmay does.
Shekhar said, “I would like to make this very clear to everyone, what I did was satire. But what Tanmay did was disrespect. Please don’t mix the two. People have been asking me, ‘you are also known for your wit and humour, how would you like to react to Tanmay’s video?’ I would like to tell everyone, once again, that what I did was comedy and what he did was insult and mockery. He tried selling his shameful content under the garb of comedy.”
“Watch his video again. Do you see any humour? Do you feel like smiling? No. It’s outright deplorable. He knew this is the kind of reaction people would show and that is why he created this. He created this just for two minutes of fame. His act is deplorable to say the least,” Shekhar added.
Sonam Kapoor calls this an ‘overreaction’
Anupam Kher, Ritiesh Deshmukh, Celina Jaitly and many other Bollywood bigwigs have condemned Tanmay’s video. MNS went a step ahead and has lodged an FIR against the comedian. However, our beloved fashionista, Sonam Kapoor feels this reaction is uncalled for. The diva tweeted, “Dear Tanmay Bhat, being your friend I know what you say and do is never to offend, but to make people laugh."
“Don't you guys think there are issues that are more important than Tanmay Bhat's Snapchat jokes? I'm in shock with this over reaction. "Being living legends, I know Sachin Tendulkar and Lata Mangeshkar don't even know and care about what's going on! Stop spewing hate on their behalf,”she further tweeted.
Asha Bhosle and Meena condemn the act
The Mangeshkar sisters have condemned the video and have said that they don’t know who this person is and do not intend to discuss this with Lata di either. They added that Lata ji’s health is quite sensitive and does not need to hear something of this kind. They also added that this is not the first time when someone mocked her, whenever Johnny Lever mimicked her, they loved it. It was humourous. But this video is repulsive and made them angry. They added that the video shows no regard for her achievements or her age. They also added that the government should take some action against this before it becomes something that any comedian can get away with.
Vinod Kambli miffed
"I felt deeply hurt when that man made fun of Lata Mangeshkar. She is like a mother to us and he made fun of SRT 2 (Sachin Tendulkar too). I've spoken to my lawyer about filing a defamation case. That guy used filthy language about me also (sic)."
